CONTACT
Directed by Robert Zemeckis
If you want a movie that will get your thoughts really moving through your skull, this is the
one to go to. Contact, based on Carl Sagan's novel (which I haven't read) is a wonderfully crafted
masterpiece from the opening scene of the earth's radio waves going further and further out into space/
further back in our history to the compelling questions of science vs belief in God. Considering Carl
Sagan's beliefs, I was surprised at the neutral position the film really took. I believe in God becasue I
have proof (ask me sometime) and completely understand the religious stand (not the fanatics that give
everyone a bad name) and I am a former evolutionist (before I began thinking logically) so I could also
relate to that standpoint as well. This thought-provoking movie deserves to be up there with other similiar
classics like 2001. Jodie Foster's most-excellent performance however, in some ways pushes this one beyond
the latter. That's my opinion, let's hear yours.
